Salt and kola nuts sustained markets, journeys and long-distance relationships. A map can make these movements readable, but a line on a map is not yet a demonstrated historical route. The Atlas distinguishes verified geometries, reconstructed paths and research leads. Images and maps are published with their source, rights and consultation date. When following a route, the visitor therefore encounters both the story being told and the documentary work needed to confirm it.
